Mike's Fab Friday

After 3 hours the wind started to lighten up and i wanted to get in a 
few more runs but then realized that I had to sail back to overlook.

it's always that last wave that screws you up......could'nt water start fast 
enough outside and got cleaned up.......finally got back on and schlogged 
back to Overlook......the wind picked up on the way back and i did a stupid 
move......i decided to bear off and head to the outside sandbar by 
Cedar......bad move....the current was raging and the big waves coming in had 
a current all their own running perpendicular.


i looked at my position and realized i'm going to have to tack back as the 
wind was off shore......the current really was screwing with me........plenty 
of power in the sail but i was not moving very fast.........had to do the 
isometric hula to make it back......finally made it back to the beach mid way 
between Cedar and Overlook........walked back to my van.

the sight off those waves really got me amped and i knew that it must have 
been going off at Long Beach....i had my surfboard with me so i decided to 
get something to eat and go for a short surf session.....and that's just what 
i did....what a day!!!!!!!!

<<Update.......i did both.......bouey report 10am:wind 27NNE,waves:8.2 
feet........2pm:wind:25NNE,waves:8.9 feet.......it was the johnson......wave 
sailed democrat point.....waves were peeling off the point.......details 
later i'm dead tired

<< Here's the details: got to overlook around 10:30am on friday.the wind hitting 
my roof racks was making a noise i have'nt heard for a while,it was humming a 
5.0 tune.
Rigged  and set off for demo.......the wind was at a perfect angle to reach 
straight across and as i neared the point i saw a joyfull sight........head 
high to overhead waves peeling off the point.....about 6 surfers were out

I sceamed out launching high off every wave. i was  hooting like a madman.the 
side off wind was causing the waves to stand up straight offering vertical 
ramps. as the wave approached the wind rushing up the face cranked it up a 
notch sending me skyward.even the surfers were hooting.

On the outside i was blowing most of my jibes cause the wind was a little 
light and flukey on the windward side of the jetty cause the dune height 
increases there. plus the fact that my legs were shaking from the excitement 
of the jumping and the sight of the large waves heading my way. 

After water starting i would stand stalled waiting for a set wave then drop 
in and take off for some of the best wave sailing i've ever done.....20 
bottom turns were not uncommon.i would drop in do a few bottom turns......cut 
back to the curl,.......lay down a cut back and bang the lip........bottom 
turn,hit the lip and do a light aerial re-entry........blast down the line 
rollor coasting it,stand on the tail,depower the sail and stall until the 
curl catches up to me then ride in the curl for a while drop down bash the 
lip, bottom turn.......ad infinitum!!!!!!!!!!!!

got caught inside for a while and was stuck in a raging current and could'nt 
get into water start position for about 20 minutes....all the while getting 
pounded and hoping nothing breaks......finally got clear and popped 
up.....
